The Eye is Blind That Will Not See – A PSL Cover-Up
After the assault, I was told repeatedly by Ben not to tell anyone. Ben warned me that if I told anyone we might lose connections and projects.

“We know this will be difficult, but as communists we are committed to doing the difficult, necessary thing, rather than remaining in an organization […] whose national leadership is conspiring to crush the strategic approach and work that we wholeheartedly believe to be […] correct.”
A letter I wrote to my comrades in which I formally withdrew my membership from the Party for Socialism and Liberation, with addendums and a preface.
Over the past week or so, two letters have emerged from internal PSL channels. The first purports to be written by one Walter Smolarek, a Central Committee member. It is addressed internally, to other PSL members, and lays out the justifications for his resignation.
The spontaneous development of the people is breaking free of the chains long cast over the struggle for liberation by the Four Opportunists. In every corner of the US Empire, the grip of the opportunists and the tailists is weakening. We must unite the most advanced theory with the most class-conscious elements of the people and we must fight against the settler-socialism of the opportunist groups.
This most recent scandal again demonstrates the inseparability of the structures of organizing we have criticized in the past from the perpetuation of chauvinism and abuse.
It is necessary to strike at the chains the workers of the imperial centers have helped forge and to draw them away from the side of their “own” bourgeoisie.
The CPUSA, FRSO, PSL, and DSA are not identical, but all suffer from a palpable stagnancy.
Our comrades clearly see the necessity of building the party, but in their eagerness, their analysis considers that party already built.
The Party will form the vanguard of the revolution only when the masses of the most oppressed internationally recognize it as their representative and their weapon in the class struggle, wielded by and in the interests of the international proletariat.
