This past January the All-Empire Worker’s League resolved that Unity–Struggle–Unity shall officially be the League Press, making it the central voice of the AEWL to combat the Four Opportunist organizations, and to help guide and unite our comrades.

Together, through struggle toward unity!

Presently, the primary aspect of the Communist movement in the US-Canadian bloc is disorganization and incoherence. This is not accidental. It is caused by the underlying primary contradiction in the settler-states: that between settler-relation and national liberation. In our movement, this manifests as a contradiction between settler socialism — in essence, nothing more than a virulent form of the “great nation” chauvinism that poisoned the Second International — and the national liberation struggle of the oppressed nations in the colonies and semicolonies, both internal and external, of the US empire and its junior partners Canada and Mexico.

At this time, there is no one organization embodying the class power of the organized US proletariat. The existing “Marxist” organizations are universally anti-democratic; they universally embody the class power of the US petty bourgeoisie and labor aristocracy. They are vehicles of chauvinism and tailism for this reason and can do little more than trail behind the Democrats, or march around in the street doing nothing meaningful, or join in the corrupt industrial business unionism of the settler unions.

Unity–Struggle–Unity Press was initially founded to address the general incoherence of the Communist movement. During its four-year history it has been forced to confront the underlying contradiction again and again in its work to unify the movement. To put it clearly: it is good that the movement is not presently unified, because this would be a false unity. It would be a stifling unity under the leadership of the chauvinist, opportunist, and tailist elements that presently dominate and control the CPUSA, DSA, PSL, and FRSO.

We do not arrive at this conclusion lightly, but through long struggle with each of these opportunist organizations. Although each may contain individuals or cliques of eager revolutionaries, the net effect of the four all-empire “Marxist” organizations is to isolate these revolutionary individuals and negate them by intermixing and countering them with innumerable reactionaries, tailists, and American and Canadian chauvinists. Even where whole cliques and groups of principled Marxists manage to gather within these organizations, they are eventually cut out to preserve the essentially counter-revolutionary character of the Four Opportunists. As proof, we point to the debacle of the 2022 CP Canada convention in which they violated their own rules to protect sexual abusers, to the expulsion and silencing of avowed Marxist-Leninist revolutionaries within the CPUSA in 2024 for the crime of advocating revolution and community self-defense, to the purge of members concerned with sex abuse and cover ups in the leadership of PSL and, most recently, the same within FRSO. The structure of these organizations does not permit constructive struggle. They cannot be saved. Their structure ossifies a self-selecting leadership caste that can never be ousted and whose chosen heirs are anointed to their seats. It reposes in this caste both money and resources, giving them added incentives to ensure they can never be removed.

This press and the All-Empire Worker’s League are thus implacably opposed to the continued existence, in their present forms, of the Four Opportunists. Our work requires us to continuously expose them for what they are: liquidators of the class struggle, engines of settler socialism, and, at the end of the day, social chauvinists and social imperialists incapable of mounting any real opposition to the bourgeois state even if they wanted to, which they manifestly do not.

The purpose of this Press is two-fold. First, it is our aim to expose those opportunist organizations that betray the social revolution in word and deed and, in exposing them, free those principled Communists who are held captive by them. We will strike them again and again. With each hammer-blow of truth, we will shake free some of those trapped by the mistaken hope that these revisionist organizations represent ready-made tools left by our forebears with which to attack our enemies.

The second purpose of the Press is to act as the central voice for the All-Empire Worker’s League. The League is a party-building secondary organization comprised of local, principled, decolonial Marxist-Leninist organizations. The Red Clarion is the League’s paper; it will carry news and announcements, analysis and guidelines, material suitable for both a mass audience and our more politically developed comrades alike.

The people need a press! The labor aristocrats must be broken away from their own bourgeoisie. The nationally oppressed peoples must strike at the state. The masses are moving, and we must move at their head or risk being left behind. Thus, ever forward, to heighten the struggle; we carry the fight to the foe!

On the morning of the 28th of February 2026, the Great Satan and its vassal in occupied Palestine launched a cluster of missiles at the Islamic Republic of Iran. Just in the opening salvo, the settler-terrorist regime has bombed a school and killed over a hundred school-aged children, decisively bringing the devastation of the children’s holocaust in Gaza to the heartlands of another nation. As thus proven, the imperialists will stop at nothing to reassert their hegemony, to rescue the “Pax Americana,” because they cannot stop. The abyss of financial collapse and imperial decline looms wide in the imaginations of the yankee elites, as well it should. To preserve the empire and their place in it, no crime is too criminal, however grotesque, and no atrocity is too atrocious, however vast. No destruction is too devastating, however permanent and disfiguring for the shared future for humanity. Anything and everything is on the table, no matter the consequences.

Today the Third World War is being fought on every continent. The genocides waged by the imperialists in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo continue unabated. The Alliance of Sahel States continues its open rebellion against the neo-colonial system. The battle with Revolutionary Yemen over control of the Red Sea reignites. Missiles launched by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps rain down across the empire’s “middle east.” Sirens blare once again in the heart of the forward base colony in occupied Palestine. Resistance forces in occupied Iraq launch a new offensive against the imperialists. The decade-long struggle by the Russian Federation to wrest Ukraine from the clutches of the neo-nazi NATO coup regime continues to grind at the unity of the US-NATO-EU imperialist cartel. The people’s struggle for control of the state in Bolivia carries on despite setbacks, and besieged Venezuela and Cuba persist and develop national autonomy with the assistance of the multipolar powers. Soldiers of the Korean People’s Army march triumphant in Pyongyang on their return from the Kursk front, bringing home valuable modern combat experience against imperial troops for use in the defense of their homeland. The Taiwan question looms at the forefront of east Asian politics.

The Palestinian people of Gaza, silenced and forgotten by the West, still struggle for their lives against floods, cold, disease, and starvation, as the colony’s encirclement and genocidal siege continues unabated in its third year. With every passing hour the disfigurement and trauma of colonial genocide is laid ever heavier on the lives and minds of hundreds of thousands of innocents.

At every turn for the past five centuries, the settler-colonial invasion and occupation of our beautiful continent by imperialist Europe and its “United States” has revealed itself to operate according to raw violence and self-interest alone — and today more people than ever before in all of world history stand witness to the unremittent and unabashed savagery of the euro-amerikan imperial system and are asking themselves, “what is to be done?”

Inside the borders of the US empire, the ICE secret police continue to kidnap innocents and doom untold thousands to die in concentration camps. Migrant workers, refugees, and Indigenous people are targeted for ethnic cleansing, and resistance is stamped out by increasingly militarized police forces. The empire’s oppressed wage a daily struggle for survival against a still-rampaging but censored SARS-2 pandemic, eugenicist labor policies, and ever more openly-genocidal ableism and transphobic violence. And yet the “progressives” of the imperial heart of darkness itself are talking about their 2028 electoral candidates, as if this war is merely a matter of legislative policy. Many “socialists” insist that revolution is impossible, and the Four Opportunist Parties continue their strategies of co-opting spontaneous organizing and demobilizing radical movements. For those of us in the imperial core, the question of how to respond, how to organize, and how to start winning, weighs more heavily and more urgently than ever.

Take stock of the international situation, of how ever more of the world is drawn into conflict with the empire. Then take stock of your local situation, of how ever more people around you are drawn into antagonism with the system. Settlers splinter into fragmentary interest groups as the solution to the crisis of imperialism becomes a more contentious and pressing issue, or they simply “check out” of political engagement altogether, preferring to numb themselves with the bread and circuses of our age. At the same time, the oppressed are drawn to co-operate and resist together, or die alone. As the international situation shifts, it is reflected in the local conditions we experience. Just as the settlers here are more and more at each others’ throats, the member states of the NATO imperialist cartel descend into infighting as their position worsens and continues to destabilize. The experience of the first two world wars of the capitalist-imperialist era taught us that global war is the standard modus operandi of how the global capitalist system resolves its internal crises. Furthermore, the experience of the first two world wars taught us that only revolutionary war can put an end to these conflicts. The first world war was ended by revolutionary uprisings in Russia and Germany, and the second by the united efforts of the revolutionary peoples of the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, and China. No such revolutionary force directly threatens the heartlands of the imperialist forces today as the Soviet Union and its allies once did, and so this third world war will only end as the first did: when the revolutionary masses within the empire unite and put an end to it. These masses are the millions in occupied New Afrika and the occupied First Nations, and the millions of settlers oppressed by their state on the basis of their ability, gender, sexuality, and age.

In fighting all of these wars the empire is running out of ammunition; its production simply can’t keep up. Where it can’t control us with naked force, it seeks to intimidate us with pervasive surveillance. But always remember that the empire doesn’t have the manpower to surveil all of us. This is why it pours its finances into AI to do the work for it (as well as to create venues for speculation and parasitism). The empire aims to have the repression infrastructure it needs built before the AI bubble bursts, but rampant corruption and insufficient electrical infrastructure call even that goal into question. It has taken the combined efforts of billions of people in struggle over the last century to bring the empire to its knees, and our task is paltry by comparison: organize a few million more to at last tear out the empire’s heart on behalf of all humanity. We have to turn the third world war into the second US civil war, and carry this war to vanquish the settler empire once and for all. Only a policy of revolutionary defeatism, the pursuit of the empire’s defeat and complete capitulation to its enemies from within, can provide us the concrete foundation for building revolutionary unity among our organizations. All revolutionary and anti-imperialist organizations must struggle between one another for unity on this line, and where such organizations do not yet exist, they must be built.

DO NOT CHEER FOR GENOCIDE!

Stand with Palestine and all international proletarians!

REJECT CPUSA’s 2025 “Amistad Award” for the imperialist trade unionists of Pratt and Whitney.

Pratt and Whitney’s “strong union contract” means that the workers building F-35 engines will have continuous wage increases. The contract protects Connecticut’s long-held role in finance capital’s worldwide imperialist death machine.

The only correct role for a weapons-manufacturer worker is to organize their fellow workers against the imperialist federal contracts of their employer. NOT to organize for better wages and benefits for all eternity.

This means working OUTSIDE AND AGAINST the captured Business Unions like International Association of Machinists Local 700.

CPUSA Comrades who speak in good faith are silenced and blacklisted from their local clubs without any hearing or struggle.

If you feel that your club is spinning its wheels, you are not alone.

Reject the revisionist rot in CPUSA. Reject their embarrassing award for the Pratt and Whitney Local.

Those comrades with anti-imperialist hearts and minds should band together to ditch the CPUSA’s corrupt central leadership. Democratic Centralism and inter-org criticism are the lifeblood of our movement. CPUSA abandoned these fundamentals decades ago.

November 20th marks the International Transgender Day of Remembrance. Ceremonies are traditionally marked with a reading of the names of our dead, with a particular focus on those murdered by individuals and the state. Although some communities also include the names of those murdered by the crushing pressure of transphobic society, a true accounting of our dead cannot be measured. Candles are lit and left to burn in memory of all those we have lost. This call to memory is an overtly political act, as systems of settler-colonial, imperialist, and reactionary violence have sought and continue to seek the total eradication of the trans lives they so readily take.

This eradication takes the form of misgendering and deadnaming transgender people after their death, as the police, bourgeois media, morticians, and families work in tandem to eradicate our ancestors and erase our collective history. It was in defiance of this epistemicide that the first recorded Transgender Day of Remembrance was held in memory of Rita Hester, a black transgender woman whose murderer is still being protected by police who refuse to investigate the case (as they do with most trans murder cases). Since that ceremony in 1999, this ritual of resistance has spread across the globe, with international groups long linking anti-trans violence to colonial and imperialist systems of genocide, femicide, and misogynoir.

These systems can be clearly observed in the data we do have. This year, the Trans Europe and Central Asia network recorded 281 reports of transgender and gender diverse people being murdered worldwide: 90% of these murders are femicides, 88% are Black or brown people, 68% of murders are recorded in Latin America and the Caribbean, and 34% of victims are sex workers. In this same report, it is observed that there has been a sharp increase in the targeting of trans activists, making 14% of victims in 2025 where they only made up 6% in 2023.

There are, however, differing numbers that will be listed on this day, as the organizations which track this information differ in philosophy on what they count as violence against our people. Due to these differences, the Remembering Our Dead project has recorded 365 deaths worldwide, a number that includes suicides, deaths in detention by police or in prisons, and more. No matter the number there are likely hundreds, if not thousands, of our sisters, siblings, and brothers whose lives were cut short and may never be accounted for in this naming of our dead.

In the last essay Sylvia Rivera wrote before her death in 2002, she expressed her recommitment to the struggle, stating in conclusion:

Before I die, I will see our community given the respect we deserve. I’ll be damned if I’m going to my grave without having the respect this community deserves. I want to go wherever I go with that in my soul and peacefully say I’ve finally overcome.

As we come together to honor our dead and our ancestors on this day of memory, do not forget that it is you and your community that have the means to struggle and achieve a liberated life in a liberated world. Let the flickering candle flames on this day be a kindling for a revolutionary passion. For together, you, your community, and your comrades have the power to bring about the world that is to be.

The All-Empire Worker’s League, its member organizations, and the Unity–Struggle–Unity Press condemn the vile attacks by ruling-class politicians and circulated by the capitalist press against our trans comrades “justified” by the death of their Nazi mouthpiece, Charlie Kirk. The bourgeois legislators in the halls of power are already embarking on a plan of trans extermination and they have pursued this genocidal scheme for nearly a decade.

Although it is the Republican Party carrying the flag of extermination, the Democrats consistently enable it to continue by failing to act to prevent it. The fact is simple: the ruling class endorses the murder of trans people. This endorsement is manifest in both Republican and Democratic policies — in the one as the active engine of legislative extermination, the other as passive cover for this heinous program.

No, even the “Democratic” states are not safe.

The capitalists are attempting to reinforce their control over social reproduction, to drum up hatred and division in the working class, and, more importantly, to secure the heteronormative patriarchal regime through which capitalist society exerts its power. Whether they recognize this as their conscious objective is unimportant; whether they are driven by ideological commitments to half-baked religious theories or by fascistic concerns with “degeneracy,” whether they are acting out of self-conscious economic motives or whitewash their material concerns as being driven by some “nobler” form of debased ideology, we do not care.

We say, they will stop.

The attacks will stop.

To our unorganized trans comrades: now is the time to join together in armed self-defense organizations. To our trans comrades in organizations other than ours: the League and its members stand with you. We are prepared to fight fire with fire and to bodily defend you. Should you need aid of any type, we urge you to reach out through USU or other League organizations.

Only through armed power will we repel the enemy.

And indeed, only the complete triumph of the social revolution can bring about trans liberation. Now is the time to raise the flag of revolution, to stand against patriarchal capitalism, to build our fighting force so that we may tear down our enemies, overthrow their barricade, and storm their fortress!

A luta continua!

The zionists are preparing to finish the genocide they started in Palestine. Immediate action is desperately needed on all fronts.

The zionists are preparing to finish the genocide they started in Palestine. “Every child, every baby in Gaza is an enemy. … We must occupy Gaza, settle it, and not a single child should remain.” 14,000 Palestinian babies in the Gaza extermination camp face imminent death by starvation. The occupying israelis have blocked all aid shipments for over two months, allowing only 5 trucks, less than 1% of the desperately needed aid, to pass into Gaza.

Up to half of this “aid” has been in the form of shrouds for Palestinian dead, and the remainder has not been distributed. No food or supplies have reached the population since the 2nd of March. Almost everyone inside Gaza is suffering from severe malnutrition, with disease rampant and medical services overwhelmed and under constant bombardment. Over 3,000 people have died in the past two months. Ninety-eight people were killed on Tuesday this week.

They aren’t sending aid.

They’re sending tanks.

A comprehensive invasion is currently ethnically cleansing the strip from north to south. The zionists have established increasingly shrinking “humanitarian zones,” outside of which Palestinians are killed on sight, and have forced the nearly 2 million surviving Palestinians in Gaza into highly concentrated “refugee camps” in the south. The zionist state regularly bombs these refugee camps, resulting in horrific casualties. Since the 15th of May, the 77th anniversary of the 1948 Nakba, israel’s bombardment of the surviving population of Gaza has intensified to unprecedented levels. Around 100 people are being killed every day by the relentless bombings.

Every leading scholar on genocide worldwide is calling this what it is, but the mainstream media refuses to report accurately on conditions in Gaza. They refuse to admit that this is an intentionally targeted genocide, being waged with our tax dollars, our “defense” industry, and our complicity. Instead they are under standing orders to continue to run PR for the genocidal zionist occupation of Palestine. The world’s governments continue to make symbolic gestures, denouncing the occupation’s actions in words while continuing to support it in practice..

The United States is the primary beneficiary and driver of this zionist atrocity; all pressure must be exerted on the United States government to cease. This genocide is U.S.-backed, U.S.-funded, and is being carried out with tactical direction from U.S. soldiers.

SILENCE IS COMPLICITY IN THE ZIONIST HOLOCAUST.

Immediate action is desperately needed on all fronts:

Arms shipments to the zionist occupation of Palestine must be stopped immediately. Visit workersinpalestine.org/who-arms-israel for a list of weapons companies involved in materially enabling the genocide.

Relief is desperately needed for the hundreds of thousands of people starving under intense bombardment. Visit gazafunds.org to contribute to relief funds, every donation helps the people of Palestine resist genocide, every donation is a potential life saved.

Visit chuffed.org/project/crips-for-esims-for-gaza to help provide e-sims to keep Palestinians in Gaza in contact with their families and the outside world.

Visit bdsmovement.net/Guide-to-BDS-Boycott for information on which companies are investing in, or directly involved in the occupation.

Spread this message everywhere you can. This Holocaust is being systematically covered up through mainstream media silence and social media censorship. Get this message into as many hands as possible! With every hour that passes more innocent men, women, children, and babies are being murdered. U.S. bombs dropped by U.S. warplanes, built with parts from Canada, the E.U., targeted by surveillance drones from the U.K.

SILENCE IS COMPLICITY.

INACTION IS COMPLICITY.

THIS HOLOCAUST IS BEING CARRIED OUT IN OUR NAME.

WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENDING IT.

It is time to come together... The pretenses are gone, the veils rent asunder, and we must evaluate our position in the cold light of day.

This statement has been adopted by the USU Editorial Board as its official position on the 2024 U.S. capitalist-imperialist election.

Yet another utterly foreseeable tragedy has come to the conclusion of its opening chapter. Capital, that monstrous creature of reaction, has blocked all forward progress, and the center cannot hold. For the next two months, the liberal establishment will be pointing fingers everywhere except at their own policies or lack thereof. The time has come to abandon the well-trod road of opportunism and economism, to shuck off the liberal chains that still bind you and blind you to the need for revolutionary action, to come together, and to build the movement that will destroy our common enemy once and for all.

Yes! It is time to come together on revolutionary lines. That means an actual assessment of the fallout, the wreckage, the ruin of the past century of political maneuvering and failed class struggle in the heart of the U.S. capitalist empire. The pretenses are gone, the veils rent asunder, and we must evaluate our position in the cold light of day. It will be unforgiving to the actual movement for progress and justice, which, at every turn, has betrayed its principles to fawn at the seat of power.

First, you will hear the liberals howling that democracy is dead because the American people are too stupid for democracy. “You’re voting against your interests!” they scream. But they haven’t taken even a moment to assess who actually did the voting and what those interests are. That’s the problem with vampires: they can’t look at themselves in the mirror.

No matter who won the election, we would be in a similar place today. We are watching the U.S. capitalist empire unravel before our very eyes. There is a huge swath of the imperial working class that sees the benefits of that empire as a right to which they are entitled, and there is no outlet for their economic fears to manifest. Why? The ruling class refuses to offer such an outlet. In other countries, it has always been the existence of a traitorous social-democratic party that provides the escape valve for this anxiety. When social-democratic capitalistic policies are unavailable, the desperate will turn to whichever option is open. That is, of course, the revanchist (that is, fighting for the recovery of lost territory or status) nativist drug of demagoguery.

Liberalism is dying, capitalism is contracting, and the capitalist empire is tottering. This is a scary time. But it is also our time. The only movement capable of progress is the Communist movement. The capitalist dreams of empire restored will only produce the utter exhaustion and destruction of the planet and organized society as we know it. As Marx wrote in the Manifesto: Freeman and slave, patrician and plebeian, lord and serf, guild-master and journeyman, in a word, oppressor and oppressed, stand in constant opposition to one another, carried on an uninterrupted, now hidden, now open fight, a fight that each time has ended, either in a revolutionary reconstruction of society at large, or in the common ruin of the contending classes.

Who are the People?

Committed liberals make up only a small portion of the working people. Liberalism, particularly the milquetoast liberalism of this latter age of the capitalist empires, has a general tendency to attract the petit-bourgeois professional workers: lawyers, doctors, higher academics, etc. These are people firmly attached to the lifestyle made possible only through the worldwide exploitation of the international working classes and subject nations by the U.S. capitalist empire — by the existence of U.S. colonies and neo-colonies, debt traps, the IMF, etc. The great mass of liberal voters are less attached to these mechanisms, or attached through more attenuated means: cheap phones and cars, low-interest home loans, etc., and would be easier to peel off from the interests of the empire.

But a great number of people in the United States simply do not vote. Voter turnout information is still being collected, but the Washington Post is estimating that voter turnout is roughly 65% of the voting-eligible population. The total is estimated at 231 million people; this means that roughly 150 million people voted and 80.8 million did not. That is a massively disenfranchised population. This is less than the 67% turnout to “defeat Trumpism” in 2020, and far less than, for instance, the 81.8% turnout in Indonesia and 79.4% turnout in Sri Lanka this year.

The working class is divided between its settler components (the imperial proletariat and imperial petit-bourgeoisie), its comprador components, and its subject-national components. The settlers are those segments of the U.S. population that benefit from land-, goods-, and labor-theft. The subject-national segments are those from whom the land, goods, and labor are stolen, often under the color of “law.” Compradors are sections of the subject-national population that serve the interests of the big ruling bourgeoisie instead of their own nation. The victory of Trump represents the will of finance capital and its co-opting of the disenfranchised ranks of the settler, imperial working class. This should not be cause for despair on our part. The people mobilized by the big capitalists to re-elect Trump are either our enemies (labor aristocrats, compradors, etc.) or are people that our movement has failed to reach, but who will turn against the ruling class when they understand their true position.

The problem is, the liberal establishment is inevitably going to cast this as a failure of democracy. Never mind the fact that bourgeois democracy is a sham, that true democracy is not possible within our warped system. Put aside the warning given by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the French socialist (“The USA could not choose the left: there wasn’t one. When there’s no more Left, there’s no limit on the Right. When there’s no fight over a program, the election becomes a casting call. The victory of Trump is the unstoppable consequence of this situation.”) Never mind all of that! The questions we must ask are these: who are the people? Can we trust the people?

We are Communists. The answer to our second question is emphatically yes. The working people did not create Trump. Certainly there are those sections of the U.S. imperial working class that gleefully voted for him. There are reactionary segments that will never be won to the side of progress and justice, of internationalism and tolerance, segments of the imperial working class that must be isolated and destroyed. However, they do not make up the entire U.S. working class. The election of Trump isn’t a failing of the people; it is a failing of the bourgeois state.

What Happened?

As we warned in March, the Democratic party has exhausted any progressive potential it may have had from its historic alliance with the imperial working class. The ruling class has successfully shut out any semblance of the Left from imperial politics. That has, in fact, been the purpose of the Democratic “coalition” (machine) since it was dreamed into existence during the Great Depression.

Every election year, progressives trapped in the Democratic Party or its wake ask themselves why they are told to “hold their noses and vote” while the Republican base is given everything they ask for. Why do the Democrats and Republicans invariably tack rightward? It’s not because the working class is inherently reactionary! It is because the property relations of this country are inherently reactionary. What do we mean by this?

The United States is a settler-garrison. The country is occupied territory, held by the presence of armed bands of police and paramilitaries. Oppressed nations are incorporated into the U.S. territory in the form of New Afrika, Puerto Rico, and the Indigenous nations, and their oppression is realized through extractive economics. Land is routinely and continuously stolen from the oppressed nations; money is taken from them; they are jailed and exploited; their property is stolen by the state, by banks, and by private citizens; they are subject to predatory lending practices. For instance, since 1950, 98% of Black-owned farmland has been appropriated by banks, agricorporations, and state governments. This isn’t idle academic chatter. This means that the basic relations of land and property ownership continuously reinforce the dominance of a single segment of society — the white ruling class.
The Democrats are left without room to maneuver in every election. The ruling class must see its profits preserved; they fund the Democratic and Republican parties. This means the Democrats are forbidden from offering meaningful economic concessions to the working class. They cannot support strong unions (remember, it was the current Democratic regime that broke the rail strike and supported treasonous labor agreements of the imperialist unions). They cannot offer anything except mealy-mouthed promises to, for instance, codify Roe (which they failed to do when they had the chance).

They cannot take meaningful steps to counteract the extreme fascist Supreme Court because if they took some kind of action outside of Washington norms, the people might expect them to provide some other kind of relief. The Democrats are tied to procedure, they are forced to shrug guilelessly and smile dumbly, as the warmonger Harris did at her concession speech. “Aw shucks, we lost. We gotta keep using the proper channels to challenge the Republicans, and just put our shoulders to the grindstone.” Had she said anything else, the people might have learned to expect aid from their politicians. The truth is, the Democrats have never been interested in helping the working people. They simply want their votes.

For the political class, for the Harrises and Cheneys, the elections feel like everything. This is the life and death game for them, when they’re in it. But it’s just that: a sport. U.S. politicians are primarily sports stars, performing in a controlled match against an opposing team. Ultimately, their pay doesn’t depend on winning the game, but rather on simply showing up and putting on a good show. When the game is over and the election is concluded, the owners of both teams get together for a drink. When the season ends, the players go off and have their own future.

Bourgeois politics is a show for our sake. It is a circus.

That’s what happened here. The electoral strategy of the Democratic Party — to chastise and cajole, to promise nothing else besides not being Trump, to demand loyalty in exchange for some vague hope of cheaper gas and grocery prices — failed. The game is over. The season is ending. The owners of both teams are toasting to each other and we, the sports fans, bemoan or celebrate the victory or loss of “our side.” Nothing was ever at stake. Harris would have allowed the eradication of trans and gay life in the South. Trump will do the same.

What Do We Do?

Class consciousness will rise in the hours and days to come. The wave will grow higher and higher as the reality of the election washes over the working classes. Every time they play this game, the ruling class tips a bit more of their hand. As the footing of the empire stumbles and its wealth depletes, the ruling class must be more and more obvious with their schemes. People can see what happened. They are ready to fight.

But we’ve left them nothing to fight with. As Communists, it is our job to provide weapons to our class, to fuse it together in a concerted effort against our true enemies. It is the Communist movement that has failed, not the people of the United States. But now we have the opportunity to build, and this election has provided us with the raw material to do it.

We must go into our communities and explain what happened to the shell-shocked people around us. We must make it clear who our enemies are. Now is the time that all the vampires will come out to feast, but in revealing themselves to us, they make themselves known. We must gather and prepare for them.

We recommend connecting with other Marxists and Marxist-Leninists in your immediate locality. All of the major Marxist organizations in the U.S. and Canada are hopelessly compromised in one way or another. Form a local study group. Prepare it to act. If you’re not sure how to start, take a look at our handbooks or reach out to us directly. Affiliate with Unity–Struggle–Unity Press and bring your local organization into the All-Empire Workers’ League.

Now is the time to build.

Soon it will be the time to fight.

The editorial board stands in solidarity with the brave Communists in CPUSA who are fighting for the democratic rights one expects in a “party” that claims to adhere to any kind of democratic centralism. The letter we have published below came to us through third party hands; Unity–Struggle-Unity Press has no membership in the CPUSA and has no influence on the party’s internal politics save for what we publish. It is clear that the leadership of this party, rightly referred to as a “den of vipers” in the letter below, has no intention of permitting revolutionary organizing of any kind, let alone true proletarian democracy, to flourish. The manner in which their party members — the individuals who have devoted their blood and flesh to the cause of revolution — have been treated for voicing even the most tepid and lukewarm dissent with the anti-democratic practices enforced by the party leadership clique is disgusting and amounts to nothing less than abuse.

We are thrilled to see that the struggle within CPUSA is intensifying. We lament the cowardice of the party’s leadership as it fleeces its members, expels them without process, and contravenes its own already undemocratic constitution to prevent any dissent. The CPUSA leadership has clearly been educated in what it means to be a Communist by the U.S. State Department, and that Communists do not permit even a whiff of argument to reach their sainted ears.

We agree with the embattled Communists in CPUSA who are fighting for its democracy — its very life. A party which does not maintain internal democracy is not a party, and it will not last long. We at the Red Clarion have already made our assessment as to the actual class forces in control of the CPUSA, and the 32nd Convention bore out that analysis. Nevertheless, we retain hope that we were mistaken and that the brave fighters for Communism who still live and breathe within the oppressive, stultifying, abusive atmosphere of the CPUSA succeed in re-introducing a party democracy that has not existed since the 1940s at best.

Even if you disagree with us, we urge you to read the letter below and judge it on its merits. Read the evidence that has been presented. Read of the treatment of CPUSA members — hounded and harried by the “National” Committee (a disgusting perversion of the term nation, which any Marxist-Leninist would know!) and literally driven underground in their own party. Decide for yourself whether or not these heroic efforts, against the entire current of the CPUSA stream, are deserving of praise and solidarity. Do not take the word of confessed liquidators. Do not take our word for it. Investigate.

Comrades,
This is another update on the “Comradely Petition to the National Committee”, which can be found at https://tinyurl.com/cpusapetition. Today I would like to cover the following topics,

The intention behind the petition

The argument about Joe’s main report

The “factionalism” argument

The Intention Behind the Petition

I will begin by reiterating the intention behind the petition and commenting on the events of the past few days. There is a dire need to separate truth from falsehood and to explain the path Party leadership has chosen since the petition came to their attention.

Despite the numerous accusations, theories, and rumors which have circulated about myself and other signatories, all it calls for is more discussion on Resolution 5 regarding the 2024 elections, discussion on the question of our support for the Democratic Party. This is only due to the irregularities of the 32nd National Convention surrounding this question and no others. The way this question was handled was straightforwardly unconstitutional, as I will show.

Let me make myself very clear: the petition is not about my or others’ position on the 2024 elections, it is not about Party policy, let alone against Party policy. It merely acknowledges what should be clear to everyone: that Party membership is divided on the elections issue, that the disagreement was supposed to be discussed and resolved at the 32nd National Convention, and that there was a targeted curtailing of the discussion necessary to arrive at the point of unity. It calls for the unfortunate mistakes that led to this outcome to be rectified rather than swept under the rug.

These mistakes should be rectified not because any of us is upset that his or her position ‘lost’ and we want it to ‘win.’ They should be rectified because true united action is not possible without comprehensive mutual understanding. We do not all have to agree, but we do have to hear each other out. Those with one perspective on the issue were given ample time to express their position. Those with other perspectives were not. Five minutes is not sufficient time to thoroughly discuss any serious issue and certainly not the most contentious in the Party with historical significance. This is bad not for just one ‘side’, but for the whole Party.

I recognize that a decision was not reached on Resolution 5 at the convention. It was referred to the National Committee for decision as the vote by the delegates on the floor was ‘unclear.’ Many who wanted to alter Party policy on the issue felt this was a win for their position, as a resolution has not gone unconfirmed at a convention in 30 years, let alone a resolution on electoral strategy. What these comrades fail to recognize, however, is that this act violated the constitution by failing to establish a majority as required and then violated it again by referring the issue from the highest authority, the convention, to a lower, less representative body. It was pure procedural chicanery meant to confuse, distract, and demoralize comrades ‘not on the same page politically’ while ensuring the ‘correct’ outcome behind the scenes.

This was my intention behind the petition. Claims to the contrary have been made, relying not on evidence but on conspiracy theories about ‘outside Maoists’ or some other group pulling the strings. (Can someone please tell me who Dr. Thomas Riggins is?) The fact is that many in the Party are discontented with either the lack of discussion time at the convention or Party policy on the matter. Instead of dealing honestly with this fact, leadership has tried to pin the underlying problems on outside bogeymen. If members have disagreements, apparently they cannot be honest disagreements. They must be disagreements borne from malign outside actors using these members as their puppets. Better yet, some members who have given their time and energy to the Communist Party for years are supposed to have been ‘undercover Maoist agents’ the entire time! Is there one scrap of evidence for such claims? No, but they must be true nonetheless! Could these individuals simply be dedicated communists who want the tradition of democratic centralism to be upheld? “No,” we’re told, “those don’t exist.” Quite frankly, it’s ridiculous.

As a result, what should have been a benign point of discussion within clubs became something much larger and, apparently, far scarier. Club discussions have been shut down across the country, members have been purged unfairly, and others have been strongly reprimanded. I myself was met with a ‘corrective action’ meeting late in the night this past Sunday, June 23. I wasn’t informed that this was what it would be. I was told it was merely a meeting, but it was a meeting in which leadership began the process of formally purging me.

Rather than a focused discussion on the petition, the issue under question, I was met with roughly an hour of disorganized, apparently unprepared remarks on various individuals’ experience at the convention. I also received a number of unrelated lectures on the need to fight fascism by supporting the Democratic Party. A few moments were dedicated to attempting to address the actual concerns of the petition, concerns which did not have to do with Party policy but rather with the lack of necessary discussion at the convention. These responses seemed deliberately obtuse, however. They did not meaningfully grapple with the issue at hand, the petition, and the issue which underlies it — the substitution of bureaucracy for democracy in the Party.

This was regrettable, but by this point, it was not a surprise. As such, I expect this to be my final message as a Party member before I am expelled for my stance which I see no good reason to back down from.

The Argument about Joe Sims’ Main Report

Some National Committee members have argued that the vote on Resolution 5 was unimportant because Joe Sims’ main report had already been adopted, superseding it. To “adopt the main report” does not mean to certify its content as Party policy, as the main report is not a policy document. The main report is just that: a report, one on Party activity, particularly over the period since the last National Convention. A report necessarily also comments on the Party’s direction and trajectory, as the convention marks the point at which the Party meets to adjust its current direction according to changing conditions, minor or major.

However, a main report cannot be taken to unilaterally dictate Party policy. It is the National Convention, the highest body of the Party, which assesses and decides Party policy for the next four years. A report, written without input from elected delegates and given before the convention even begins deliberation and discussion, is not a proper substitute for democracy at the National Convention.

Therefore, the idea that the main report is what ultimately matters and not the input from the whole body of the Party gathered over months during the pre-convention discussion in the form of resolutions is not only wrong but also a rather humorous attempt at saving face and again trying to sweep an objective point of contention under the rug.

The “Factionalism” Argument

Joe Sims, with the backing of the National Committee, has described the Comradely Petition as, “the very definition of factionalism.” Many in lower levels of “leadership” have unquestioningly fallen in line with this proclamation, and many members followed suit. It is understood that dissenting voices will be subject to the unconstitutional “purges” common in recent decades. Is this accusation accompanied by any theoretical justification or historical analysis? None at all. It must simply be accepted as dogma by any opportunist member who wishes to secure their position and rise through the ranks. There are no principles to be found here. We only see the blanket statement that any Party communication without the express approval of this opportunist clique is, by definition, “factional”.

Let us briefly examine the actual historical basis of factionalism. In comrade Stalin’s speech to the CPUSA in 1929 he says,

Factionalism weakens the Party spirit, it dulls the revolutionary sense and blinds the Party workers to such an extent that, in the factional passion, they are obliged to place the interests of faction above the interests of the Party, above the interests of the Comintern, above the interests of the working class. Factionalism not infrequently brings matters to such a pass that the Party workers, blinded by the factional struggle, are inclined to gauge all facts, all events in the life of the Party, not from the point of view of the interests of the Party and the working class, but from the point of view of the narrow interests of their own faction, from the point of view of their own factional kitchen. Factionalism, by weakening the will for unity in the Party and by undermining its iron discipline, creates within the Party a peculiar factional regime, as a result of which the whole internal life of our Party is robbed of its conspirative protection in the face of the class enemy, and the Party itself runs the danger of being transformed into a plaything of the agents of the bourgeoisie.

Do we see here anything to suggest that communication between Party bodies at the grassroots level is the “very definition of factionalism”? No, we see that factionalism creates a peculiar regime within the Party which places the interests of the faction above the interests of the Party and the working class. If such a faction gained leadership, would it seek to enshrine itself as the only approved middleman through which all Party communications must flow in order to be considered legitimate? Factionalists would certainly jump at that opportunity.

Because they threaten the unconstitutional rule by national and regional Party bosses, the grassroots members of the Party who assert their rights are smeared and attacked. Does the call for a special National Convention threaten the wellbeing of our Party so much? Or is it only that it threatens this reformist clique occupying seats of power in the Party? At any point in this petition ordeal, has any group of members demanded the usurpation of leadership for themselves? Have the petitioners sought to coalesce a faction around themselves at the expense of correcting and strengthening our Party? To the contrary, we see only that those signing and discussing the petition seek to maintain the unity in our Party and to mend the rift exposed at the 32nd National Convention. Many have forgotten in the course of the slinging of accusations that the simple proposition of this petition is that clubs should exercise their right to call for a necessary special National Convention by presenting a collective request to their respective districts. This unifying aim is clear to any who have operated in good faith so far, although few have.

Conclusion

I have attached a list of nearly 30 constitutional violations which occurred over the last few weeks, covering almost every article of the constitution. With such profound and thoroughgoing disregard for the Party constitution, every other article is therefore called into question as well — even Article I. By what right can this organization call itself the “Communist Party of the United States of America”? Was it not as recently as 2014 that the leadership of this “communist” party entertained a discussion on the removal of Marxism–Leninism from its platform? Perhaps this was only rejected in order to lure more enthusiastic would-be communists into this endless hall of mirrors. These naïve true believers wander aimlessly without genuine leadership until eventually they become demoralized husks, ready to carry and spread the opportunist disease.

In my exchanges with “leadership”, the illiterate den of vipers, I’ve come to realize that the Party constitution is nothing but toilet paper to them. The only true authority of “The Communist Party of the United States of America” is the consolidated reformist faction dominated by Joe Sims and Rossana Cambron. What a pitiful cult of personality to serve. Rossana introduced herself at the convention by saying that she had no desire to prioritize reading the words of Marx, Lenin, or any other Marxist–Leninist thinker. This trait seems to be shared by the entire faction occupying the National Committee. Joe Sims, on the other hand, is an avid follower of the internationally renowned Marxist outlets, CNN and MSNBC. The only reason I have stayed within the ranks of this sham of an organization was to attempt to honor the historical legacy of the Party and the contributions of fine communists like William Z. Foster and Gus Hall. Their souls are now despairing at the sorry state of the Party to which they dedicated their lives. I have always sought to maintain a principled stance and to help correct these wayward reformist trends, but it has become clear that no such mechanism of democratic centralism truly exists.

To those people who tell me they are in the process of signing at their next club meetings, I wish you had acted with more urgency, but I wish you luck and perseverance against these snakes who have appointed themselves our leaders. To those cowards who privately supported and encouraged many of us across the country in our fight to restore democratic centralism but whose resolve evaporated when the time came to actually sign, I hope you have enough self-respect to feel ashamed. To those rats who squealed at the first sign of mild social risk and fed information to our venomous dictators, I hope you find a quiet hole in which to waste away rather than come near any independent political organization again.

When I sent the National Committee my petition, the only rebuttals they produced were personal attacks and nonsense. They paid no attention to the constitutional arguments and produced no theoretical justifications for the petty dictates of national leadership. They stuck their heads up out of the pit to be squashed one by one with minimal effort. No real communist would put up such a meager defense. They called me narcissistic for thinking the National Convention could even impact the direction of the Party. How was I to know I was interrupting their 30-year-long meaningless tea party for the Democrats? I crashed in, thinking this was some kind of communist party. My mistake.

I would also like to state for the record that in the process of trying to bring the petition to as
many comrades as possible I discovered that there is indeed a Maoist faction operating out of clubs in Austin, Chicago, Louisville, L.A., and elsewhere. I know this because they reached out to me, but I rejected them and their genuine project to destabilize and destroy the party wholesale. With this, the irony of accusations against rank-and-file clubs who signed this petition in good faith comes full circle. As a matter of fact, up until 2014, it was grounds for expulsion for members of the party to sling accusations of outside influence. Now we have the very leadership accused of such things slinging these accusations at rank-and-file members themselves!

Your comrade,
Marcello Paussa

Appendix: Constitutional Violations

These are violations of the Party constitution on the part of the National Committee as well as national and district leadership in the period surrounding the 32nd National Convention and the circulation of the “Comradely Petition to the National Committee”.

Article II – Principles of Organization

SECTION 1. In the Communist Party, all decisions are arrived at through democratic procedures, emphasizing the maximum input from members. Unity is the strongest weapon working people have in the struggle to advance their interests. By making a commitment to unite around a program of action, members strengthen the Party and help unify the working class and peoples movements.

Collectivity is the basic style of work of the Party. Through group discussion and action, we seek to develop and apply the best possible plans to advance the interests of working people. The principles outlined in this article are used in practice by many peoples organizations to foster democratic decision-making and unity in action. Historically, these principles have been known as democratic centralism.

Rather than emphasizing “maximum input” and “group discussion”, national town halls and pre-convention discussions in many clubs and districts were tightly restricted. Some districts, like North California, had no discussion at all.

Resolutions to change the Party’s electoral policy, including one submitted by an entire district, were rejected.

“Maximum input” was also not emphasized at the National Convention: discussion was severely curtailed on Resolution 5, the resolution which the most delegates signed up to discuss by far. It received a small fraction of the discussion time that resolutions with unanimous support did.

The chair of the first convention session violated democratic procedure by ignoring an objection to the convention rules after calling for them to be voiced.

National Committee members described Joe Sims’s main report as the authoritative document of the convention, overriding any resolutions. This report was not subject to any democratic procedures or review.

A National Committee member stated that even a rejection of Resolution 5 would have no impact on the Party’s policy.

It is Communism that gives us a voice to articulate this exploitation, a rubric to chart it, and ultimately, a weapon to defeat it. When our exploitation ends, liberation begins.

Rising costs. Shrinking wages. A bloodthirsty government. Hard-won rights being stripped away. The collapse of everything the generations before us fought for in this country. Skyrocketing evictions. Misery. Economic crisis like we haven’t seen since the Great Depression. These are the benefits of capitalism. On the one hand: cheap phones, air conditioners, and computers. On the other: ecological disaster, prejudice and race-hate, the loss of bodily autonomy, and being reduced to a machine for someone else’s profit. Why? Because someone benefits. The (overwhelmingly) white men in power are making money. They tell us what to do, what to watch, what to wear, who to love, and who to hate. They tell us not to worry our little heads over Communism. They tell us to hate the Chinese, the Russians, the Cubans, the Palestinians, our neighbors, our friends, ourselves. There has never been a better time to understand Communism. The time for Communism isn’t last century, or yesterday. The time for Communism is now.

What is Communism? Communism is liberation: the total liberation not only of the working classes, but of all people, all over the world. That sounds too good to be true, but Communism isn’t utopianism. It isn’t a guaranteed solution to all our problems. In fact, Communism is only the beginning of solving our problems. Communism is nothing more and nothing less than the common ownership by all of society of the productive forces that make and do everything for everyone. The capitalists that own these now say who can work, when, why, and where. They decide what gets made. Under Communism, society doesn’t produce for greed: it produces for need. Although the capitalists tell us about all our freedoms, what they mean is their freedom to exploit us, and our freedom to be exploited. As long as we have to rely on the profit margin of a big company to meet our needs, we will never be free. There is no freedom without economic security, and there is no security for the working people without Communism. The first freedom is freedom from want.

Capitalism perpetuates national oppression, race-hate, white supremacy, cis-heteronormativity, and oppressive patriarchy. These oppressions spring out of class society. It is Communism alone that attacks class society at its root. No feminist can work for the liberation of women if they do not work for the liberation of women from class oppression. No gay rights activist can work for the liberation of queer and gender oppressed people if they do not work for the liberation of those who are class oppressed. No disability rights advocate can work for the liberation of disabled people if they do not work for the liberation of the poor. Social oppression stems from economic oppression. It is working class queer people, women, trans people, Black people, and other marginalized groups who are the most exploited. It is Communism that gives us a voice to articulate this exploitation, a rubric to chart it, and ultimately, a weapon to defeat it. When our exploitation ends, liberation begins.

The zionist occupation has announced plans to “move” 100,000 residents of Rafah... It is more important than ever that all progressive organizations unite into an anti-zionist front!

The zionist ghouls in the occupation government have made no secret of their desire to conduct an invasion of Rafah. On Monday, May 6, 2024, the occupation force dropped a blizzard of leaflets warning the Palestinian residents in Rafah to leave or die. The zionist occupation has announced plans to “move” 100,000 residents of Rafah — as it has moved Palestinians in the past, from their homes onto highways where they are then bombed, shelled, and shot by the same occupation.

The student movement for the liberation of Palestine continues to defy the police across the U.S.-Canadian empire. Those handful of encampments that capitulated to traitor’s bargains, promises of “studies” on divestment, or other wheedling and cajoling from their administrations, are just that: a small minority. Elsewhere, the student movement has boldly resisted the extreme violence brought to bear by local police and universities.

The time has come for escalation. The student movement should not have to stand alone. Palestine should not have to stand alone. The invasion of Rafah will be carried out by the occupation forces, but the weapons that will flatten Rafah are not being sent from Tel Aviv — they come from Washington, D.C. The rear of the occupation force is not located in Palestine, but in the domestic production of the U.S. and Canada. Weapons shipments must be stopped. Aid to the zionists must be halted. We must stand together!

The criminal Biden regime has already felt the wind of change and delayed arms shipments to the zionists. We must transform the delay into a permanent halt. The $216 billion dollars that has flowed to the zionist government since 1946 must cease. The zionists purchase 80% of their arms from U.S. war production, and the money given to the occupation government flows back into private U.S. corporations like Boeing, AM General, Caterpillar (which produces armored bulldozers for destroying Palestinian homes), Colt, Day & Zimmerman, Flyer Defense, and the ever-present U.S. behemoth of General Dynamics.

It is thus more important than ever that all progressive organizations unite into an anti-zionist front. If your union local is anti-zionist, it must unite with the student movement. If your DSA chapter is anti-zionist, it must unite with the student movement! If your CPUSA club is anti-zionist, it must unite with the student movement! The zionists are poised for crushing defeat. Let us help deliver it to them.
