I refer to its increasingly feeble support for the independence of Puerto Rico. In the past the Party rose to the occasion in no uncertain terms, and registered its solidarity in take-no-prisoners action. Where once the “Puerto Rican question” was sincerely investigated and judged by the principles of Marxist science, it is now reduced to a one-liner at best. Where in the past, hundreds of Puerto Ricans on the US mainland belonged to the Party, and thousands more functioned in its orbit, we may now settle with no more than a dozen. For shame!
